I am passionate about nurturing mathematical talent in students of all levels.

What I Offer

Tutoring: Personalized sessions to master concepts from AMC 8 to AIME.

About Me

Profile Photo

Doing math in middle school, I felt I was lost. It seemed that everyone else knew the exact competitions and problems to be doing and I had no guidance at all.

After I scored a perfect score on the AMC 8, made it to national MATHCOUNTS, and qualified for AIME 4 times, I searched for ways to help the younger generation find their way in math. I taught classes with my math team the Motown All Stars, taught through LIVE by Po-Shen Loh, and started a MATHCOUNTS club full of homeschooled students that succeeded at states.

Now I privately tutor students which has been extremely fulfilling. Week in and week out I get to see each of my students more deeply understand math concepts they previously did not. I reach for success in math just as much as my students, but more importantly I strive to develop a love of math.

Content

Students will drive the tutoring so whatever their goals are I will adapt to them. With extensive mathematical experience, I can tutor anything from AMC 8 to AIME — nothing is too easy or too difficult.

I patiently instruct students in ways that no class or self-study can replicate. I have lesson plans that I commonly teach to students at each level, but everything is highly customizeable and I adapt to the students needs.

I also usually give students practice problems based on the concepts learned during the lesson, and a past AMC or Mathcounts test to help introduce new concepts as well as hammer home old ones.

Testimonials

Luke is an excellent teacher. I learned many things from him, such as Engineer's Induction and Heron's Formula. He is very inspiring and extremely insightful. Because of him, I have improved at MATHCOUNTS. He has a great approach to teaching, giving me time to think and hear my thoughts instead of lecturing.

I understand things better and my math has improved. I also liked the lesson when I finally understood how to do combinations and probability better. Another thing I liked were some of the solutions to the problems. I think Luke is good at teaching because when I don't understand he tries to help me learn better.

Luke, really fueled my passion for math and problem solving and even got me started in it. When I was looking for a harder math curriculum, he introduced me to the math counts competitions and whenever I needed him, he was there to help me train. My final year, I got first in the chapter round and 17th at state. Our team was placed third in the chapter round, earning our team, a spot in the state competition. I've seen Luke's teaching skills improve greatly over the course of his time coaching me at first he would explain complex math topics in a way that was rather over my head, but now, I can tell that he really takes the time to come down to the level of the learner and teach in a way that makes sense to them. He has so much math ability, just when I think I'm catching up to his level of understanding, I realize that he was simplifying it the whole time to make it easier for me and his students to grasp.
